Every screen in the arena, on your side.

HockeyOnline Screens turns any screen in your arena into club signage. A Raspberry Pi or an old laptop behind the TV, paired with a short code, shows your images, the ice schedule from your calendar, team rosters and, during a home game, the live score, goal animations and the play-by-play. The live game appears on its own, whether it is scored in HockeyOnline or in eGREP, and screens work in portrait and landscape.

Who uses it: Clubs and rink operators, and the one volunteer who used to fight with the lobby TV every weekend.

How it works

  1. Plug in

A Raspberry Pi, a stick PC or an old laptop behind the screen. Open the Screens page.

  2. Pair

The screen shows a six-character code and a QR. Type or scan it, name the screen and put it in a group: lobby, rink, clubhouse, restaurant.

  3. Fill the playlist

Images, pages, rosters, the ice schedule, a countdown to the next home game, sponsor slides every few items.

  4. Game night runs itself

45 minutes before faceoff the screens switch to lineups and the countdown, then to the live score and ticker, then the final score, then back to the playlist.

What you can do

Cheap hardware, no fuss

A Raspberry Pi, a stick PC or the old laptop from the club office. If the power goes, it boots straight back into the last content.

Groups with sensible defaults
New screen in the lobby group? It plays the lobby playlist, on the lobby hours, without anyone touching it.
Your ice schedule, always current
Paste the iCal link of the calendar you already keep the ice schedule in. Changes show up on the screens on their own.
The live home game, from any scoresheet
Score, goals and the play-by-play, whether the table uses HockeyOnline (instant) or eGREP (through the hockeydata live data).
Layouts for every screen
Full screen, main plus ticker, an L-shape with sponsors next to the live score, or split in two; portrait or landscape.
Goal moments
A short goal animation with scorer and assists, if you want it, then back to the game.

A new screen at the kiosk

Walkthrough

The club puts a TV above the kiosk and a Raspberry Pi behind it.

  1. Open the HockeyOnline Screens page on the Raspberry Pi. It shows a pairing code.

  2. Scan the code, name the screen “Kiosk” and put it in the restaurant group.

  3. The restaurant playlist starts: ice schedule, sponsors, next home game.

  4. On game night the screen switches to the live game by itself and back to the playlist after the final score.

Tips from the rink

  • Use the L-shape layout in the restaurant: the live score stays on while the sponsors keep rotating.

  • Youth games show jersey numbers only on public screens unless your club opts in to names.

  • Put a QR code slide in the lobby playlist that leads to your club website or the next home game.

What’s in it

  • Runs on a Raspberry Pi, a stick PC or an old laptop, recovers on its own after a power cut
  • Pairing with a code or QR, screen groups, playlists and schedules
  • Images, pages, rosters, countdowns, QR codes and sponsor slides
  • Ice schedule from your iCal calendar, per rink
  • Live home game with goal animations and play-by-play, from HockeyOnline or eGREP
  • Layouts for portrait and landscape screens

Questions

Do we have to score the game in HockeyOnline for the live screens?

No. If your scorekeeper still uses eGREP, the screens follow the game through the hockeydata live data and show how fresh it is. With HockeyOnline at the table, they update instantly.

Who can set up a screen?

Anyone at the club who can plug in an HDMI cable. Pairing takes a code, the playlists come with sensible defaults.

What happens if the Wi-Fi drops?

The screen keeps playing its cached content and shows a small offline dot until the network is back.
