Nothing changes downstream. Except the mood in the announcer’s booth.

HockeyOnline is built around the eGREP game report. It writes the report field by field, the original eGREP software reads it unchanged, and it talks to hockeydata’s league server exactly the way eGREP does: loading games, continuing games started in eGREP, sending live snapshots and highlight updates, and uploading the final report. Livescores, websites and statistics keep working as they always have.

Who uses it: Everyone in a league that runs on eGREP and the league server: scorekeepers, clubs and the league office.

How it works

  1. Load from the league server

An empty report, a lineup prepared in the app, or a live or pre-game report started in eGREP.

  2. Play

Live snapshots and highlight updates go to the league server during the game, so livescores and websites follow.

  3. Upload

The final report goes to the league server in eGREP’s own format.

  4. Open anywhere

The game file opens in the original eGREP software unchanged.

What you can do

The eGREP game report is the contract

The data model mirrors eGREP’s game report one to one, including its element order and quirks. Tested against real game files.

The league server, the way eGREP does it
Loading, continuing, live snapshots, highlight updates and the final report: the same calls, the same format.
Mix and match
Start a game in eGREP and continue in HockeyOnline, or the other way round.
Terms your league already uses
Penalty names and codes come from eGREP’s configuration. English follows the IIHF rulebook.

Walkthrough

A club moves to HockeyOnline in January; the league changes nothing.

  1. The scorekeeper opens the next home game from the league server in HockeyOnline.

  2. During the game the livescore on the league website updates as usual.

  3. After the final horn the report goes to the league server. The league office sees a normal eGREP report.

Tips from the rink

  • Keep eGREP installed on the old laptop for the first weeks; you will not need it, but it is nice to know.

  • Everything eGREP guards against, HockeyOnline guards against too, adapted to touch.

  • The league password is only needed to open the game; with the club platform, volunteers never see it.

What’s in it

  • eGREP game report, written field by field and read by the original eGREP software
  • Loading games and prepared lineups from the league server
  • Continuing games started in eGREP
  • Live snapshots and highlight updates for livescores
  • Final report upload in eGREP’s format

Questions

Does the league have to change anything on the league server?

No. HockeyOnline uses the same interface as eGREP. For the league server a game report from HockeyOnline looks like one from eGREP.

Can a game started in eGREP be continued in HockeyOnline?

Yes. HockeyOnline loads an empty report, a lineup prepared in the app, or an existing live or pre-game report from the league server.

Is HockeyOnline made by hockeydata?

No. eGREP is a product of hockeydata GmbH. HockeyOnline is an independent app that works with eGREP and hockeydata’s league server.
